Communication
In any professional context, the ability to communicate ideas in a way that is understood by different types of people, with different agendas, is crucial.
This is not simply a matter of summarising and transmitting neutral information, but of formulation that varies according to contexts and the pertaining strategic objectives. Indeed, you do not speak to a public of specialists as you would to a wider public, to a colleague as you would to a student, to a team that needs motivating as you would to an appointments committee, etc.
A wide range of transversal communication skills, both oral and written, can be developed :
- Specialised writing or translation for a broad audience ;
- Oral presentations : conferences, seminars, posters, Powerpoint presentations, debate moderation, speaking time management, etc. ;
- Funding applications (whose nature varies according to who you are dealing with : scientific institutions, private sector, foundation, etc.) ;
- « Career skills » : CV, covering letters, portfolio, letters of recommendation, certificates of employment, job interviews (as candidate or employer), etc. ;
- Teaching : transmission of knowledge, methods, evaluation, feedback, etc. ;
- Interactional skills : negotiation, motivation, conflict management, etc. ;
- Situational skills : formal and informal networking, contact with media, etc.
