Transitions and the lifecourse

People develop from birth to death. We study transitions – the process that follow events experienced as ruptures, such as entry into school or the workplace, or changes linked to life choices, migration, or social transformations. We are equally interested in the life course in its entirety as well as in specific trajectories – professional trajectories, migration trajectories, food trajectories, etc. –in how these are, socially guided, and in how persons experience them. We theorize these processes at play, what constrains the choices of people as well as what facilitates them, and the conditions under which the person defines her or his unique life course in a socially and culturally complex world.
