Efficient groundwater modeling using MODFLOW and Python

During the last ten years, the US Geological Survey and several teams wordlwide have contributed to make the groundwater modeling software MODFLOW environment evolve in an extremely rich manner. New packages were developed. New ways to integrate MODFLOW in complex workflows using Python allow to answer questions that were extremely tedious to solve previously. These tools are changing the way that consultant and researchers can now perform groundwater modeling.

The aim of this 4 days intensive course is to enable the participants to use these new possibilities and to work efficiently with MODFLOW and FloPy (a python interface).

Overview

The course assumes that the participants have some basic knowledge of groundwater modeling. 

Participants will work on their own laptop in order to become independent and able to use all the tools by themselves after the course. Software installation instructions will be provided prior to the class.

It will cover an introduction about MODFLOW and PYTHON in order to allow everyone to start from the basics and will progressively tackle more advanced functionalities and packages, including parameter identification and uncertainty quantification.
