Eelco Fiole

Biography

Eelco Fiole is co-founder (2015) and the managing partner of Alpha Governance Partners (AGP), which is focused on governance for sustainable and digital investment management. AGP has partners across Europe, North America and Asia and provides risk-focused and conflict-free professional board directors to investment companies and fintech globally. He is also adjunct professor finance ethics at the Universities of Neuchatel and Lausanne and instructor #BeyondESG at the Amsterdam Institute of Finance. Based in Zurich and Singapore and with 25+ years in the industry, Dr Fiole is a risk governance expert active in innovative, complex investments, sustainability, blockchain and fintech. He has over 15 years of board-, COO- and CFO-experience, a.o. as CFO of the Tezos (blockchain) Foundation in Zug, with equity of USD 600 mn, COO Alternative Investments (Switzerland and USD 17 bn of global strategies) with Credit Suisse Asset Management in Zurich/New York and Group-CFO of USD 15 bn-Millennium Global Investments in London/Geneva. He gained advisory experience with a.o. PwC in Zurich and started his career as an institutional banker with ABN AMRO in Amsterdam. An IFC Nominee Director and co-head Switzerland for Tiger21, Eelco's current governance mandates are in impact, Web3-tokenization, sustainability, private equity, emerging markets and UHNWI-investing.

A Dutchman, Eelco currently studies cyber security at NYU Tandon, holds a PhD in economics (Basel) and further degrees in applied ethics (Zurich), environmental governance (Geneva), social innovation (Cambridge), blockchain technologies (Barcelona), positive leadership (Madrid), law (London), business administration, and mechanical engineering (both Rotterdam).

He holds a.o. the B-Corp Leader-, CFA-, SCR-, CDir-, CAIA-, QRD-, FRM-, IFQ-, CDDA-, CIFD-, CMA- and CL6σBB-designations, is a Fellow of The Institute of Directors in London, volunteers as chair of the UniNe Ethics in Finance Award, as member of Council of the Institute of Directors, as member of the advisory committee of the ESG Exchange, part of the Good Governance Academy, as jury member of the global “Ethics & Trust in Finance for a Sustainable Future”-prize of the Observatoire de la Finance, as Director Governance at the Cambridge University Social Impact & Sustainability Society, and previously a.o. chair of the Alpha Summit Advisory Group and member of the Disciplinary Review Committee of CFA Institute, as member of the think tank Finance Transition Lab and YourPublicValue, board member of CFA Switzerland and CFA Liechtenstein, exam council member of the CAIA Association and member of the Hedge Fund DDQ working group of UNPRI.

Dr Fiole published a book on corporate governance in financial institutions and has various professional publications. Multilingual, he has visited 100+ countries and has 20+ years of substantial private exposure to China.

He is the 2022 recipient of the Inspirational Leader Award of CFA Institute for Ethics, a global recognition, and in 2018, Eelco was nominated for the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award of RSM Erasmus University. He regularly speaks on ethics, governance and risk.
