- A review revealed that amoeboid protists are predominantly sexual. As amoeboid organisms occur on almost all major branches of the Eukaryotic tree, any characteristic shared by all amoebae is likely to be a shared trait for all eukaryotes. This suggests that the common ancestor to all Eukaryotes was probably a sexually reproducing organism.
