About us
The Centre of Migration Law (CDM) is a research and teaching centre specialising in the fields of migration law and migration policy, funded by the three universities involved. It unites four faculties in three different universities:
- The Faculty of Law of the University of Neuchâtel
- The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Neuchâtel
- The Faculty of Law of the University of Bern
- The Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg
The CDM carries out research in the field of migration law, integrating a social science perspective. Among the subjects researched are Swiss law on foreign nationals, nationality law, asylum law, the law on individual freedom of movement with the EU, and international refugee law, as well as European and international migration law.
This combined skills base in social sciences and law aims to promote collaboration between disciplines, to facilitate the creation of a network of national and international specialists on migratory phenomena, and to offer a wide range of interrelated tuition and research. In particular, the CDM works with the following institutions:
- Centre for the Understanding of Social Processes (MAPS)
- National Center of Competence in Research – The Migration-Mobility Nexus (NCCR - on the move)
- Swiss National Human Rights Institution (ISDH)
