Alarm calling is an important behavior in many monkey species. Unfortunately, little is known about the ontogeny of this behavior. During my master’s thesis research, I will test the social learning of alarm calling in juveniles sooty mangabeys (Cercocebus atys). More precisely, I want to examinate if and how surrounding individuals near a juvenile impacts its alarm calling behavior. To do so, I will undertake observational and experimental field work at the Taï national parc (Ivory Coast) under the supervision of Prof Klaus Zuberbühler.
